Detour Pit Stop #104: Ristorante Da Taiadèla, Sant'Agata Bolognese, Italy

Tucked away in an industrial estate behind the Lamborghini factory is this terrific trattoria that serves up the most tasty traditional dishes.

Ristorante Da Taiadèla caters not just for the hoards of visitors to the Raging Bull’s museum, but to employees and Lamborghini’s guests.

Okay, so there’s not much competition here on the outskirts of Sant’Agata but the same could be true of Lamborghini itself whose supercars have become progressively more powerful and outrageous over the 60 years since the company was founded.

Unlike its neighbours’ products Da Taiadèla is no attention-seeker, in fact you have to search quite hard to find it this family restaurant, which actually pre-dates Lamborghini’s first car by a year. From the outside it looks much like any other industrial unit, but step inside and you’re into a cosy world of wood panelling and white tablecloths.

After a splendid selection of anti-pasti, and crostini served with friggione bolognese, I just about managed to squeeze in the cotalleta alla bolognese which was hearty and delicious. Others with me raved about the tortellini in brodo, a simple dish of pasta in broth, while the lasagne was another big hit.

I’d recommend timing your visit after any museum or factory tour so that you build up an appetite. I did the opposite and nearly slipped into a food coma on the Urus production line.
