A British adventurer plans to drive from Pole to Pole in an electric car

Chris Ramsey of Plug In Adventure is aiming to be the first person to drive from Antarctica to the Arctic in an EV.

The Scottish pioneer has already completed a series of EV marathons, including the 10,000-mile Mongol Rally and setting a record for an electric road trip between Land’s End and John O’ Groats and back again, but this will be his most ambitious adventure yet.

The 17,000-mile trip is scheduled to begin in March 2023 and will pass through 14 countries. The route begins in Canada at magnetic North, then cross into the USA, down through through South and Central America, and then be shipped to Antarctica for the finish.

“Our mission is to show that electric vehicles can tackle the harshest of environments – from the colds of the Poles, to the hot and humid jungles of South America,” says Ramsey. “This is the ultimate test of range and durability, and by overcoming these obstacles we aim to prove that EV adoption is a possibility for everyone, while also raising awareness of sustainable lifestyles, conservation projects and renewable energy innovation along our route.

“For some people climate change can feel like an issue that is too big for them to have an impact on, but with road vehicles accounting for more than 20% of all harmful emissions worldwide, the switch to electric cars powered by renewable energy could dramatically reduce our carbon footprint.”

Ramsey’s previous electric exploits have been behind the wheel of a Nissan Leaf, but for this incredible journey he has teamed up with Arctic Trucks to create a unique and versatile EV based on the Nissan Ariya e-4ORCE. Detour will be following this awesome EV expedition so stay tuned for updates.
