App-controlled Airstream takes the pain out of parking your trailer

Photo Airstream

The hardest part of hauling a trailer has always been manoeuvring it into a prime position at your chosen campsite. But now Airstream has come to the rescue with a cool caravan that can park itself.

The eStream trailer looks every bit as stylish as any classic Airstream, but underneath is a modern ‘skateboard’ chassis houses a bank of batteries and electric motors and this means that the eStream can actually propel itself.

On the road the trailer can provide assistance on hills or give a range boost to an EV tow car by reducing the strain. Then once you’ve arrived at your destination you can unhitch the eStream and use an app on your phone or tablet to steer it to your desire spot.

The eStream is just a concept for now but is so smart that it surely has to go into production. Airstream’s parent company has also shown an electric RV concept based on a Ford Transit called the Thor Vision which uses a combination of solar power and fuel cells to give it a 300 mile range that should satisfy any #vanlifer.
