Detour Pit Stop #36: Bike Shed Motorcycle Club, London

Hidden under some railway arches in Shoreditch is a haven for bikers, wannabe bikers and, frankly anyone who fancies fine food and drink in very cool surroundings.

Founded by former adman Anthony “Dutch” Van Someren as a virtual club, the Bike Shed began hosting motorcycle shows and then moved into a permanent space near Old Street in 2015. And what a space it is. Industrial chic is the look, with plenty of comfy leather sofas strewn around the displays of fabulous custom bikes.

There’s a bar and kitchen serving from breakfast until late at night and an apparel store selling merchandise and serious biking gear. You can even get your hair cut or beard trimmed at the onsite barber shop. And, of course, there are many bikes to browse and buy.

Membership starts at £30 a month, but it’s a very welcoming vibe and you can just walk or ride in off the street. A Los Angeles Bike Shed is opening in 2021.
