Detour Pit Stop #49: Little A'Le'Inn, Nevada, USA
After a hard day, or night, of UFO hunting in Nevada’s Area 51, it’s nice to know that there’s a good hostelry you can repair to.
Based in Rachel, Nevada, the Little A’Le’Inn is a family-owned bar, restaurant and hotel situated in the middle of the desert, at the very epicentre of the global UFO community. With the mysterious Area 51 military base just a few miles down the road, this is the perfect place to order an Alien Amber Ale, take a gander at grainy photos of alleged UFO encounters and discuss strange tales of unexplained extra-terrestrial activity with some friendly locals.
If you’re dead set on spotting alien lifeforms, you can extend your stay and book into one of the A’Le’Inn’s somewhat austere sleeping units, which each contain a couple of bedrooms and a shared bathroom. Camping is also available for those who’d rather commune with nature and experience the desert’s stunning dark skies, which are largely unbothered by light pollution. Campsites come with firepits and porta potty bathrooms, which may come in especially handy if you see little green men shuffling around in the sagebrush.
