Detour Pit Stop #88: The British Motor Museum, Warwickshire, UK

British Motor Museum

Far more than your typical collection of mothballed classic cars, The British Motor Museum is a hub of car culture for the Midlands, a fun learning zone for kids and a place to get behind the wheel.

More than 400 cars are on display on the massive site, many coming from Jaguar and Land Rover which are based just next door. The museum also houses Vauxhall’s heritage fleet, every car you could imagine from the British Leyland days and a restoration workshop to get them running right.

Putting them to the test are a number of driving days operated by Young Driver where anyone from aged ten and above can try their hand at driving car such as an Austin Seven or Morris Minor. There’s even a fire engine should you fancy something bigger.

The museum also plays regular host to car clubs and hosts regular “Gaydon Gatherings” open to all. It might be a temple of internal combustion, but EV owners are welcome and ten charging points are available.
