Kevin Costner will narrate your next American road trip

Oscar-winning actor Kevin Costner has launched a new app that gives a live commentary as you drive. Don’t worry the Dances With Wolves star won’t be criticising your driving, instead he’ll be telling you stories from the road as you travel.

The HearHere app uses GPS to fix your location and then pick out suitable local tales based on a number of different themes: Colorful Characters, Culture, History, Local Insights, Music, Natural Wonders, Special Places of Interest and Sports.

Costner explains: “I love stories. I am the guy that stops at the historical markers along the highway - usually bringing moans from everyone in the car. But it was this continuing curiosity that I began to think HearHere could satisfy without anyone having to leave the car. Why couldn’t we replicate every marker along the highway - even expanding from the usual paragraph in bronze that always left me wanting more.”

The HearHere app currently covers California, Oregon and Washington and is promising more than 10,000 stories to cover the whole of the USA.

It’s a great idea and can only make your next American road trip even more, er, American.
