London taxi company electrifies the #vanlife

The company that makes London’s iconic black cabs has turned its attention to the booming business of camping.

The e-Camper from the London Electric Vehicle Company uses the same plug-in hybrid technology as its taxis and can travel 60 miles on electric power alone, but the range-extending petrol engine means that a total of 300 miles is possible between charging and petrol stations.

Being based on a cab means that the e-Camper is a bit of an odd looker, but it does benefit from an incredibly tight turning circle so finding a spot in a crowded campsite should be easy.

Once you’re all set up the e-Camper will help make your stay comfortable with a handy pop top to allow standing up inside, an electric kitchenette, table and front seats. When night falls it can sleep four people.

The asking price is £62,250+VAT which is a little more than a new VW California and at least double what you’d need to pay for a lovely classic camper. VW’s all-electric I.D. Buzz camper is still a couple of years away so if you’re looking for a green machine for nights under the stars this is your only option for now.
