Watch two brothers take on the Carrera Panamericana in their old Volvo Amazon
Brothers Chris and Jeff Mason fulfilled a lifelong ambition to compete in La Carrera Panamericana rally, and lucky for us, a film crew was along for the ride.
The epic 1,900 mile rally across Mexico was first held in 1950 to celebrate the opening of the Pan American highway. It was a nine-stage, five-day race across the country – Mexico’s Mille Miglia except it was twice the distance.
These days it’s a 1,900-mile classic car rally and the brothers followed in their stock car-driving father’s wheeltracks by entering their 1965 Volvo Amazon. The whole thing was filmed and cut into a very watchable half-hour documentary called Driving La Carrera.
Without giving too much away, let’s just say, like any good driving adventure, it wasn’t without its unexpected twists and turns.
