1,000 miles across the Rocky Mountains… on electric bikes

Tucker Neary and Mark Jackson of electriccyclerider.com set out to see if it was possible to ride the Back Country Discovery Route from Colorado to Wyoming on electric motorcycles.

The 1,000-mile off-road adventure took them over 12,000-ft high mountain passes, braving thick mud, hail storms and bone-shaking dirt roads - all with the added fear of range anxiety.

The pair’s Zero DSR bikes have a claimed range of 157 miles in the city and just 64 miles on the highway and Tucker and Mark pushed their limits on 14-hour-long riding days, punctuated only by charging stops.

Planning the expedition was a meticulous exercise that required overlaying charging maps with the off-road route to ensure that they could go the distance in seven days.

Of course it wouldn’t be an adventure if everything went exactly according to plan. Watch the video to see how the guys managed on this pioneering ride.
