Take a photographic journey along Route 66 with Hayley Eichenbaum

Photographer Hayley Eichenbaum has documented her travels on Route 66 in an ongoing series of still images. The collection, dubbed The Mother Road, celebrates the architecture and landscapes of America’s Main Street, from its motels and lodges to donut shops and desert vistas.

Eichenbaum says her cinematic images have been inspired by the style of Stanley Kubrick and that they’ve been framed to be reminiscent of classic film sets.

"I imagine that my shots are taken right before the story's climax or directly after. I like that tension – devoid of characters yet charged with emotion and colour," she told Dezeen.

Eichenbaum has driven Route 66 eight times so far to create an exhibition of images which is available to view and buy online at Homecoming Gallery. A book featuring the collection is set to follow in 2022.
