111 hours in the saddle. How a new electric bike Cannoball record was set

It’s 2,906 miles from Redondo Beach in California to the Red Ball Garage in New York and one rider just smashed the previous record for electric motorcycles.

Riding a 2021 Energica EVA Ribelle bike, Steven Day set out from the west coast on April 18, 2022, while his colleague Rob Swartz left New York at the same time on a newer Energica EVA EsseEsse9. Aiming to reach their respective destinations on Earth Day, April 22, the riders were set to cross paths mid-way through the Charging Across America adventure.

Unfortunately Swartz’s support truck was involved in an accident, leaving Day to dash across the country to set a new solo time. Having previously ridden from Florida to San Diego in 93 hours, Day had plenty of experience to call upon for his record run. With the bike capable of around 100 miles at highway speeds, the trip was essentially a series of sprints, with stops every couple of hours to charge. An hour at a fast charger was enough to top the battery to 90 per cent and give Day a chance for a power nap.

The technique was massively effective, beating the previous record by a massive 67 hours. But how long will it stand?
