Detour Pit Stop #13: Bicester Heritage, UK

On the site of a former Royal Air Force base is the future of motoring’s past. Inside the rusting former hangars and red brick admin buildings at Bicester Heritage is a host of companies keeping classic cars alive. From storage to complete restoration to a skills academy that trains enthusiasts and wannabe professional car carers alike.

If that’s not a good enough reason to visit then the regular Sunday Scramble, which draws thousands of old cars, is always a relaxed and friendly opportunity to gawp at classics.

Looking further down the road there are plans to open a hotel and a track on to make Bicester Heritage a year-round destination for petrolheads.

At Detour we love this place – just getting to it is always a car-spotters’ delight as rare metal makes its way along the Oxfordshire lanes – and we’re often up for a Scramble. Hope to see you there soon.
