Detour Pit Stop #80: The Lodge, Oulton Park, UK

Do you dream of falling asleep to the smell of Castrol R and waking to the sounds of squealing tyres? Then book yourself a night at The Lodge at Oulton Park.

For the first time in 300 years the stately entrance to the Oulton Park Estate in Cheshire is available to rent. This Grade II listed building has been completely renovated so that petrolheads can stay mere metres from the race circuit.

Inside the lodge are two bedrooms and one bathroom, a fully-fitted kitchen and a lounge - although you may well want to fire up the barbecue or pop out to the Egerton Arms or the Red Lion pubs for sustenance as both are just a short walk away.

Prices start at £180 per night, but at busy race weekends there’s a minimum four-night stay. The good news is that entry tickets are included and you’ll have have the most exclusive seats at the circuit as garden looks out on the track at the over-90-degree right-hand Lodge Corner. There’s even a gazebo so you can watch the action in all weathers.
