Watch Sir Stirling Moss's mighty Mercedes 300SLR go for a last blast in London

Before retiring to the Mercedes-Benz museum in Stuttgart, the mind-blowing 1955 Mille Miglia-winning 300SLR driven by Sir Stirling Moss and Denis Jenkinson went on a whistle-stop tour of London.

London was Moss’s home for more than 60 years and it’s actually where he began his journey to that most famous race, driving to Italy in a beautiful 300 SL Gullwing.

Trading the Gullwing for the SLR Moss and Jenks were in a class of their own on the Rome-Brescia-Rome route, often topping 170mph on the public road course and completing the 1,000-miles in just 10 hours. They were a full half-hour faster than Fangio in second place, thanks to Moss’s driving and Jenks’ brilliant pace notes.

No one would ever drive the Mille Miglia faster. This lovely short film, which ends at Moss’s central London home is a fitting tribute to the driving legend and his car.
