Daisy the Mini saw in 2024 as the highest car on the planet.
Having reached a height of 5,920 metres as midnight struck on the slopes of Chile’s Ojos del Salado volcano Detourist Ben Coombs and his team of automotive adventurers gave each other the highest of high fives.
It was a huge struggle to get the Mini to this point, with temperatures plummeting to minus 17 degrees Celsius and the thin air causing Daisy and all the drivers to wheeze and lose power. Throw in deep sand and brutal rocks that even hardcore 4x4s would find a challenge and it’s a miracle they made it this far.
The daring ascent marks the high point of the Mini 600 Expedition, but it’s far from over yet and we’ll continue to bring you updates from this truly epic journey as we get them.
