This Porsche 911 is a Turbocharged Tribute to The Transfagarasan Highway
Romania’s most fabled road is to have a Porsche 911 named after it.
Only ten examples of the 911 Carrera 4 GTS Tribute to Transfăgărășan will be built by the Sonderwunsch team in Stuttgart, with each one personalised for its new owner. All will feature subtle decals on the doors and B-pillars, with the engine grille painted in the blue, yellow and red of the Romanian flag. Moving inside the cars will have the words Tribute to Transfăgărășan etched on the illuminated door sills and embroidered into the leather of the seats. The first car, which has just been delivered to its Romanian owner, is finished in Graphite Grey.

Porsche’s designers were inspired to create this special edition after the company marked 50 years of the 911 Turbo with a special road trip to Romania. “When we experienced the Transfăgărășan during the 911 Turbo’s 50th anniversary last year, we found a lot of inspiration for this individualisation package,” says Alexander Fabig, Vice President of Individualisation & Classic at Porsche. “Therefore, we decided to not only create one but 10 individualised cars that pay tribute to one of the most legendary and inspiring parts of Romania.”
Beneath the bespoke touches that celebrate the Transfăgărășan the car’s mechanicals are unchanged. Its 3.6-liter flat-six engine comes with an electric turbocharger and an additional electric motor which boost power to 541 bhp, and enable it to sprint to 62mph in just three seconds. Top speed is 194mph, although good luck to anyone attempting to reach that on the twists and turns of Romania’s most remarkable road.
