Hot laps in frozen Lapland could be the best Christmas gift ever

A fleet of rally-ready Porsches awaits in Santa’s backyard.

Organised by Kalmar Beyond Adventure the Spirit of Speed Arctic gives guests the chance to fly through the Finnish forests and skate across the frozen lakes near Rovaneimi.

Under the tuition of FIA World Rally Champion Marcus Grönholm drivers will learn to master the art of Arctic Control in classic air-cooled 964 and 993 Porsche 911s and more modern 996s and Cayman Rs.

The cars have all been built to rally specification by sister company Kalmar Automotive and have undergone extreme weight saving measures, with competition specification suspension, sports seats, belts and roll cages, along with full underbody protection fitted to prepare them for the arduous Arctic conditions. The Porsches have manual transmissions with driving aids limited to anti-lock brake systems which can be disconnected if you’re feeling brave enough. The cars also run on special studded tyres that have been used by past winners of Rally Sweden to bite into the ice.

Three different packages are offered: Arctic Control, Arctic Race and Arctic Team. Control is aimed at beginners wanting to learn the basics of ice driving, Race ups the ante to a rally experience complete with a co-driver guiding you with pace notes, while Team is a tailored program for groups.

Accommodation for the four-day experiences is in a private Glass Resort Premium Lodge, with sauna and hot tub to unwind at the end of a busy day of icy action and prices are available on request.

Dear Father Christmas, we have been very good this year…
