Porsche electrifies Australia with 3,000 mile road trip

A Porsche Taycan 4S Cross Turismo has just just proved that long-distance EV travel is easy – even across the most remote parts of Australia.

The car began its electric road trip in Darwin, Northern Territory and travelled across the Outback to Sydney’s Bondi Beach – a distance of more than 3,000 miles.

The journey took 19 days and included 27 charging stops on a route that included the spectacular Nitmiluk National Park and Nitmiluk (Katherine) Gorge in the Northern Territory and climbed the infamous Simpson Desert sand dune ‘Big Red’ in Queensland. The car made a pit stop for a lap of Bathurst’s Mount Panorama Racetrack, and took in the switchbacks of the Blue Mountains before reaching Bondi Beach in Sydney.

Powering the Porsche involved a wide variety of charge points from overnight halts in remote cattle stations to roadside rapid chargers. In total the car was plugged in for some 85 hours.

“Embracing the spirit of exploration, on this all electric trip the Taycan Cross Turismo redefines the very essence of reduced impact adventure,” said CEO and Managing Director of Porsche Cars Australia, Daniel Schmollinger. “The Taycan Cross Turismo offers a thrilling driving experience while exploring nature. This is how Porsche captures the hearts of Australians.”
