Around the World in 90 Days by Morgan
We do love an unlikely adventure vehicle here at Detour. We’ve charted attempts to conquer the globe in an Aston Martin, an epic drive from Europe to Japan in a Honda S2000 and even found a guy living in a Lamborghini as he drives around the planet.
Now we raise a chapeau to the Frenchmen who drove the world in their Morgans back in 1994. The Malvern motor company has just released a short documentary commemorating the incredible feat which took the Moggies through Europe, Russia, China and the U.S.
As with many such adventures the idea was hatched over a few libations by members of the French Morgan owners’ club, known as Les Mousquetaires. After some preparation work at the Morgan factory, which included completely removing their roofs, fitting larger fuel tanks, sturdy tyres and hidden compartments for valuables, three cars set off on their 38,000 km journey.
Incredibly, in addition to sharing the cars the French Detourists also shared the same name. Jean-Louis Clavère, Jean-Pierre Rivals and Jean Ribot completed their incredible journey just 90 days after they began.
You can enjoy the story of this amazing drive in the video below and then check out some of Detour’s own Morgan adventures.

We don’t normally write about train journeys at Detour, but when said railway takes you and your car to one of the best mountain passes in Switzerland we’ll make an exception.
