Dozens of Fabulous Ferrari GTOs to Descend on the Dolomites
Ferrari is marking the 40th anniversary of the GTO with an exclusive driving event in the Italian Dolomites.
The GTO Legacy Tour 2024 is only open to owners of Ferrari’s first supercar, which was revealed to a gobsmacked public at the Geneva Motor Show in 1984. The GTO was the first Ferrari to feature a twin-turbo V8 engine, mounted longitudinally amidships and it produced a mighty 394 bhp at 7,000 rpm. Its Pininfarina-penned bodywork was based on the 308, but both wider and meaner to accommodate the extra power and performance. The GTO had a top speed of 190mph, but drivers on the Legacy Tour won’t be getting anywhere near that as they sweep through the switchbacks of the Dolomites.
The tour, which takes place from 1-5 October starts in Val Rendena, tackling marvellous mountain roads before arriving at Ferrari’s home in Maranello, where owners will meet with experts from Ferrari Classiche and even some members of the original GTO development team, before taking part in a parade around the Fiorano test track.
Ferrari originally planned to build just 200 GTOs for homologation in Group B racing, but such was the demand that 272 were made. If the success of Ferrari’s 2023 F40 Tour is anything to go by then a good number of them are likely to make it home to Italy for this remarkable road trip.
