The Lake District is being electrified for EV road trippers

A road trip route designed especially for electric car drivers has just been opened up in the Lake District.
The 74-mile EV Trail takes in Windermere, Grasmere, Keswick, Ullswater and Penrith and includes a number of charging stations along the way. Devised by Cumbria Tourism the route can be done in a day or a week, depending on what pace you like to set. There are plenty of outdoor activities to take part in along the way, and recommended camp sites and B&Bs to stay.
Although the EV Trail generally sticks to main roads, it does go over the Whinlatter Pass and, if you’ve got sufficient juice in your battery it would only be a short detour to take in the Lake District’s other challenging climbs including the Kirkstone Pass, Hardknott Pass, and Honister Pass.
The charging points have been funded by the Low Carbon Lake District which is due to install an additional 900 chargers in the region, and would expand the opportunities for EV adventurers exponentially.
