The Torsus Praetorian has been transformed into a home on wheels by the company’s German distributor ALL4Buss and camper specialist Dämmler. It’s not just a motorhome, say its makers, it’s an Expedition Liner.
This luxurious land yacht can go anywhere on earth thanks to its massive ground-clearance, axle articulation and powerful 285-hp diesel engine. It can ford rivers up to 60 cm deep and climb gradients as steep as 60 degrees.
Yet inside it’s like a boutique hotel room, with a view that changes every day of course. It’s all been tastefully designed in wood, with white cabinetry. There’s a spacious dining area, galley kitchen, separate bathroom and double bedroom, while the dinette seats can be converted into a double bed to sleep another two people.
On the way to the night’s camping spot every passenger has a proper seat and seatbelt, to hold them securely in place as the Praetorian powers over every obstacle in its path.
There’s underfloor heating for arctic adventures and a powerful air conditioning system for desert drives, plus storage for 250 litres of fresh water and a huge battery so you can go off-grid for as long as you like. We can’t think of a better Detour mobile command centre.
Of course building the ultimate off-road RV doesn’t come cheap, with prices starting at €550,000 but we can all dream can’t we?
