How to Drive the Highest and Lowest Roads in the UK

Max Adventure is offering a unique chance to drive from below sea level up to 2,782 feet on a three day off-and-on road trip.

The route begins at Holme Fen in Cambridgeshire, which is the lowest navigable track in the UK, sitting at nine feet below sea level, with the final destination being Great Dun Fell in the North Pennines, some 250 miles away. Highlights of the journey include the chance to stop at the highest and lowest pubs in the country, drive the Buttertubs Pass and take on the highest green lanes in the UK.

Participants will need to have a 4×4, but Max Adventure says: “This event isn’t about serious mud plugging or extreme off road driving, but exploring the stunning UK wilderness and getting away from it all.” The Max Adventure team will be on-hand in its own expedition-ready off-roaders to provide support if it’s needed.

The drive, dubbed Fen to Fell 2026, takes place from 17-20 July and prices vary from £399 per person if you’re going solo to £149 per person with four people in a car.
