Father and son reach one-third distance on round-the-world Aston Martin drive
Phil and Will Churchill have driven their Aston Martin Vantage more than 8,000 miles as they bid to circumnavigate the globe in style.
The father and son duo set out in February and drove across the USA to reach Mexico on the first leg of their round-the-world road trip. They then collected the car in Cancun, before heading south through Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica.
Their goal had been to reach Panama City, but a closed border crossing thwarted their plans and the family adventure will begin again in 2024 after Will has completed his A-level exams.
The family Aston has already had a storied past, having crossed the Asia Highway from Tokyo to Istanbul in 2007 and being driven 30,000 miles in 30 days in 2006 to celebrate the 30,000th Aston Martin made.
“We had a terrific time driving through Central America, and while we are a little disappointed not to reach our intended target for this year, we have still driven a third of the way around the world this year and are immensely proud of what we have achieved,” says Phil.
“We will be back in 2024 to try for Panama again, and then ship the car to Colombia to take on South America. The amazing reactions from the people we met along the way kept us going, as well as the support of those following us on social media.”
The Churchill’s Vantage World Tour is raising funds for the charity CALM, with £13,500 already secured out of a target of £15,000.
