Detour Pit Stop #115: Caffeine & Machine, The Bowl, Bedfordshire, UK

Car culture hub Caffeine & Machine has expanded its operation to Bedfordshire.

The original C&F in Warwickshire, now known as the Hill, has been a huge hit, with auto enthusiasts travelling from far and wide to attend regular meet ups. There’s always an eclectic mix of vehicles in the car park, a positive atmosphere and tasty food.

Founders Phil McGovern and Dan Macken are hoping to replicate the experience at The Bowl, situated just beyond the gates of Millbrook Proving Ground and its high-speed ‘bowl’ circuit from which they pinched the name.

It’s a good-sized site with plenty of outdoor space and it’s been interior designed with the same attention to detail as the original. Automotive art adorns the walls and there are lots of stylish leather sofas plus cafe-style seating.

When Detour visited it was a quiet Friday lunchtime, but we’re told mid-week evening meets are pretty lively. We ate chicken burgers and fish tacos, washed down with a cold Coke and, while not exceptional, it wasn’t bad value.

The main reason to attend, though, will be for the community. To hang out with like-minded petrolheads and admire the assembled machinery.
