Little or Large: how would you live your best #vanlife?

Two dramatically different new ways to go overlanding have just come to Detour’s attention.

At one extreme is the diminutive DAMD “Little D”, which is a ruggedised version of the Suzuki Every/Carry micro van. With chunky all-terrain tyres and lifted suspension the lightweight van should be able to scrabble over most dirt tracks to get you that picturesque camping spot. Just don’t be in a hurry as it only has a 660cc motor.

When you arrive at your overnight location you can pop the top for increased headroom, cook a meal in the tiny kitchen and then fold out the double bed for a cosy kip.

Loki Expedition’s Discovery couldn’t be more of a contrast. This mighty RV features a 16 or 20-foot-long luxury living space bolted onto the rear of a powerful Peterbilt truck chassis. It’s essentially an apartment on wheels that can take you almost anywhere.

There are double glazed windows to shed light on the interior-designed living space. There’s a proper kitchen with an induction hob and large fridge, a bathroom and queen-sized bedroom. The main living area can also sleep another four people, while the onboard tech allow adventurers to go off-grid for days. There’s over 1500 watts of solar power fed into to a 2kWh battery, 140 gallons of water and even heated floors so a winter chill won’t spoil your trip.

Which would you choose for your next overland adventure?
