Meet China’s ‘Road-Tripping Auntie’ Su Min
A sixty-year-old Chinese grandmother has become a feminist icon thanks to a four-year road trip.
Su Min’s story of courage and exploration has inspired millions who watch her videos and led to her becoming the subject of a hit film in China. Known as the ‘Road Triping Auntie’ she first jumped in her car during the 2020 pandemic to escape a decades-long abusive relationship with her husband. She found freedom on the road and, over the course of the next four years, racked up 180,000 miles exploring the country, alone but never lonely.
Documenting her adventures on video Su Min quickly built up a huge online following, and became an inspiration for other women who feel trapped in their lives. With her story now being told to an even wider audience in the feature film Like a Rolling Stone, Su Min was named one of the BBC’s 100 most inspiring and influential women of 2024.
"Can you have the life of your dreams?" Su Min told the BBC. "I want to tell you that no matter how old you are, as long as you work hard, you will definitely find your answer. Just like me, even though I'm 60 now, I found what I was looking for."
Having travelled all over China, Su Min is now on her third car and would love to venture abroad to continue her incredible journey.
